Please Stop Exercising

 Did you know that running wasn't always a "thing".  Fitness classes didn't exist for our ancestors.  And people didn't always have the issue of having too much food available to them?



Of course you did.  You're a smart person. And smart is why we all (at some point) have signed up for a gym, or a class, or the newest thing.  And sweat.  ​A lot.

Sweat beading off our body like our body was crying (because, let's be honest, it feels that way sometimes).  Smart right?

So we should all be doing it?  Yes!  Or maybe not...according to The Guardian's article on why exercise won't save us.

Do I exercise?  Well yes and no.  I don't go anywhere and attend usual classes. But I do consciously MOVE.  I walk whenever I can.  And I yoga on and off my mat throughout the day...  and stairs, ALWAYS.

So what?  ​
Research is finally saying that it's not that we lack exercise (we do, but not necessarily the kind in a gym).  We lack movement. Sitting is not the new smoking...it's the being sedentary part that's killing us.
​ 

Quit exercising.  Get up earlier and walk your kids to school.  Take the stairs at work (pretend the elevator doesn't even exist). Change your desk position at work (have you tried squatting? or alternating which foot is on the floor with a standing desk?). Move for fun.  Join classes because you want to spend time with friends or learn a new skill!

Resolve to enjoy life, and enjoy the outdoors, and your friendships (and do it all with movement).

​You might never feel the need to exercise again.

Yay! Thank you for writing this and putting it out there. This is a sane concept. Sometimes I feel like no one remembers the days when people weren’t run off their feet with extracurriculars and activities.
